These series of binders are designed as supplemental stimuli to your teaching program and/or aide in teaching new concepts. Each binder contains over 10 activity pages and can teach one specific skill or multiple skills depending on a child’s needs and ability. Parents and teachers often use the binder as an independent task tool where the child starts at the beginning of the book, completes each page in order, and then puts the binder away when finished. They incorporate a number of skills that can be customized for the child by removing from or adding to the specific activity pages in the book.
In a group teaching situations, teachers use one binder per child and present directions to the class as they walk through each activity page. The Independent Works Binders are commonly used in centers, task bins, and as independent downtime activities.
The Reading Concept Series Work Binders are the first 3 in a series of 5 books that incorporate a number of skills; books 3 and 4 are currently in development.
Book 1 focuses on identical matching skills and word to word matching. These skills are fundamental to teaching the beginning steps to decoding, or sounding out a word without yet considering the meaning or comprehension of what a child reads.
Book 2 introduces skills like word to word with picture matching. For those new to these concepts, in word to word with picture matching, there is one icon with both the word and picture on a page. The task is to match to an icon with the picture. Book 2 also builds skills such as sequencing the alphabet through matching and opposite concepts word matching.
Book 3 expands on the previous concepts and begins to fade some of the matching prompts. For example, the child is now required to match the word to the picture without any additional word matching prompts. This book also begins to introduce more advanced skills including simple reading comprehension and identifying beginning sounds.
