Chicago, IL August 21, 2012
Special Learning Inc., the leading global provider in special technology applications and educational resources used in teaching children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring the inaugural Touch Technology Applications for Children with Special needs Conference, a two-day symposium offering information, resources and demonstrations on the latest touch-screen tablet technology available to individuals with autism spectrum disorder. As a major sponsor of this highly focused technology convention, Special Learning, in partnership with Touch Technology, is providing participants the option to attend the conference and expo through live webcast streaming of select conference sessions. The two-day event takes place on September 17 and 18 at the Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri.
Touch Technology Applications for Children with Special Needs offers a comprehensive overview of the top applications available in touch-screen tablet formats. Skilled practitioners will lead attendees through hands-on informational sessions on touch technology applications for communication skills, social skills, academic skills, self-help skills, behavioral management, data tracking and management, and more. Participants may customize their conference and expo experience through theme-specific breakout sessions lead by local and national therapists demonstrating the practical use of touch technology applications in home, school and social settings for individuals with ASD.
Michele LaMarche, BCBA, founder and executive director of Step By Step Academy and co-founder of Special Learning will be a featured speaker during the Touch Technology Conference. She will lead two informational sessions on the following topics:
1. Introduction to Special Learning’s Communicating Basic Needs App
This session provides comprehensive training on this communication app which is available for the iPad, iPhone, iTouch, Kindle Fire and select Android devices. The app allows children with ASD or any other language deficit to effectively communicate their basic needs and wants using customizable assistive technology. Participants will learn how to utilize the basic communication platform to enable a child to successfully communicate what they want and need with adapted expressive language.
2. Technology in Autism Treatment: Teaching Apps
LaMarche will deliver a comprehensive overview of the various teaching applications on the market available for individuals with ASD, and she will explain what developmental profiles benefit from each app. Participants will come away with an understanding of how certain apps can benefit specific developmental profiles and how to utilize teaching apps in behavioral modification.
Special Learning’s sponsorship of the live webcast supports its mission to bring autism and ABA solutions to the global market. The live webcast is an alternative way for interested individuals unable to participate in this event in person to obtain access to the informational sessions and product demonstrations through Special Learning’s online webcast of the conference and expo.
