Amanda’s Journey to Recovery (Susie’s Diary) Blog #5

Wow what a busy few weeks we have had! Christmas is only a couple days away and we have all been really sick. It has been really rough around here with everyone being extra cranky not feeling well and we have added extra hours for the boys. I am grateful that we have the option to have all this help but some days it can be very challenging having 3 kids with autism on top of 3 therapists in our house at the same time.I wish we could build a therapy wing we are starting to trip over each other. I try to be an involved parent but sometimes I am unsure what my role is am I supposed to be there and help or should I go to a different area of the house and let them do what they need to do? It has added a lot of extra stress but I am hoping that it will calm down after the holidays and once we get into the swing of things and all feel better too.

Of course another stressor is the holidays and taking the kids to family members houses. At least at these get togethers the kids are getting new toys so they are excited but it’s very draining chasing them around peoples houses that are not child proofed. Also it’s hard to be around my typical niece and nephew too and see how much different they react to opening gifts or even the simple things people take for granted.

Still seeing so much progress with my daughter and it warms my heart to see how far she is coming along. It’s definitely different than my boys progress I am wondering if it’s because of age and them being set in their ways etc or if they are still learning what they know along with working on compliance issues. I can’t wait to see them really reach their potential. The therapists are really surpised with how smart they are with the little things so I hope we continue on the right track. That is something to hope for in the new year ahead of us!
