Your first NCSP renewal: the mentorship requirement and the 75 hours
A first NCSP renewal adds a requirement: at least one academic year of professional support or mentorship. Here is what NASP's renewal page says, alongside the CPD hours every renewal needs.
The mentorship requirement
NASP says: "New NCSPs (first renewal) must document at least 1 academic year of professional support/mentorship." It adds: "In schools, mentors must be credentialed school psychologists with 3+ years of experience; in non-school settings, mentors must be appropriately credentialed psychologists." NASP recommends "1 hour/week supervision" and says to "Upload the Professional Support Verification Form (PDF)". The linked copy is hosted by the Texas Association of School Psychologists; check with NASP that you have the current form.
The CPD hours
Every NCSP renewal needs "A minimum of 75 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) activities within 36 months of renewal, and maintain documentation of activities". NASP says "At least 10 of the 75 CPD hours must come from a NASP-approved provider or APA-approved sponsor of continuing education." It also requires "At least 3 hours of CPD regarding ethical practice and/or the legal regulation of school psychology" and 3 CPD hours in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) / social justice, which "count toward the required 75 CPD total." "When renewing, NCSPs must upload required CPD documentation".
Plan both
Our free NCSP renewal hours planner tracks the CPD hours and has a printable CPD log; it does not track the mentorship year, so keep that record with your Professional Support Verification Form. For hours you choose yourself, read what NASP says about providers it has not approved. Special Learning is not a NASP-approved provider or an APA-approved sponsor.
