NCSP renewal documentation: what to upload and what happens in an audit

Since August 2025, NCSPs upload their CPD documentation when they renew. Here is what NASP accepts as documentation, what each record should show, and how its audit works.

Uploading when you renew

NASP's renewal page says: "Starting August 2025: When renewing, NCSPs must upload required CPD documentation". It adds: "First-time renewals must also upload the Professional Support Verification Form." Its CPD guidelines say NCSPs "will submit required documentation to NASP when renewing as part of their NCSP renewal".

NASP says you may upload CPD documents before starting your renewal application, and the uploads will be linked when you start it. Visit the NCSP renewals page, and keep your own copies of the documents. NASP says you can upload a ZIP of documents for one CPD category and enter their combined credit amount. Uploading records is a step in renewal; check NASP for the rest of the application requirements.

What NASP accepts as documentation

NASP's CPD guidelines list these as acceptable forms of CPD documentation:

  • "Documentation of attendance provided by a CPD sponsor."
  • Official college or university transcripts for college or university credit (the renewal account page and Category B guidance specify official transcripts).
  • "Official Employee Transcript of Professional Development Hours"
  • The "Continuing Professional Development Convention Documentation Form" for NASP convention activities outside workshops and documented sessions.
  • The Activity Documentation Form (PDF): NASP says it can document activities not otherwise covered by the listed options.

Check an activity against your application month

Enter the month you plan to submit your NCSP renewal and the month you completed an activity. NASP counts the three-year period backward from the application month; if your submission month changes, check again.

This is a month-level check, not a credit decision. Complete the activity before you apply; NASP says credits from a previous renewal cannot be resubmitted. Check documentation and the exact submission date with NASP's CPD guidelines. Your entries stay in this browser.

What each record should show

NASP says documentation of CPD activities "should include the following information": "name of participant", "CPD hours claimed", "category or type of activity", "title or topic of activity", "activity sponsor, if applicable" and "date of activity".

Each category also names its required documentation. For example, for workshops and in-service training (Category A) it is "Documentation of attendance or Activity Documentation Form", and NASP notes that "Program flyers, handouts, agendas, and brochures may be used to supplement the Activity Documentation Form, but are not accepted forms of documentation." For college coursework (Category B) it is an "Official college or university transcript". For self-study (Category H) it is a "Certificate of completion or Activity Documentation Form (listing at least four resources used for each informal self-study topic)".

The audit

NASP says: "Approximately 10% of NCSP renewal submissions are randomly selected for audit. If selected, NASP will notify you by email, and an alert will also appear in your account. NASP will review the documentation you have uploaded." If deficiencies are found, "you will be notified and have 60 calendar days from the notice date to submit additional documentation. If you fail to respond within 60 days, your NCSP credential will be considered expired."

Keep it as you go

Our free NCSP renewal hours planner has a printable CPD log that records the date, title or topic, sponsor, category and hours of each activity, so they are written down before you upload.

Special Learning is not a NASP-approved provider or an APA-approved sponsor, and our courses do not meet the 10-hour requirement. If you choose a recorded course for your self-study hours, Compassionate Mandated Reporting Across Disciplines runs 110 minutes and costs $39, paid once; after you pass its quiz, its certificate of completion shows your name, the course title, the dates and the hours. You decide whether it meets the four questions in NASP's CPD guidelines for you. We do not claim it meets the ethical/legal or EDI requirement. For hours you choose yourself, read what NASP says about providers it has not approved.

Common questions

Do I upload CPD documentation when I renew my NCSP?

Yes. NASP says that starting August 2025, NCSPs must upload required CPD documentation when renewing, and first-time renewals must also upload the Professional Support Verification Form.

What should CPD documentation include?

NASP says it should include the participant's name, the CPD hours claimed, the category or type of activity, the title or topic, the activity sponsor if applicable, and the date of the activity.

What happens if my NCSP renewal is audited?

NASP says about 10% of renewals are randomly selected. NASP notifies you by email and reviews the documentation you uploaded; if deficiencies are found, you have 60 calendar days from the notice date to submit more, or the credential will be considered expired.
