The provider of solutions-based products for the Autism and special needs community is giving away its popular social story app designed for teaching social skills to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities.

Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) October 25, 2013
Special Learning Inc., the leading global provider of special technology applications and educational resources for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), announced today a special offer on its popular social story app, the Saying Goodbye Social Story. The popular interactive skill-building app can be downloaded for the iPad for free from iTunes or the App Store. This innovative app provides an easy, accessible way of teaching various common rules and social norms to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, thus allowing them to function more effectively in everyday social settings.
“Special Learning understands the need for interactive and engaging products that enable children to improve their social skills,” said Karen Chung, Founder, and Chief Executive Officer. “Using an app format that works on commonly used devices allows for children with special needs to blend into their social settings and integrate with peers while still providing easy access to a teaching resource.”
Social stories are short, illustrated books designed to help prepare children to address common situations and teach them how to respond appropriately. Special Learning has brought this idea to life in an app through vivid and colorful illustrations paired with clearly written storylines told from the student’s perspective.
The flip-book pages are easy for any user to navigate with a touch of the screen. The app is also equipped with customizable options that allow the user to choose a voice for the narration from four possibilities: boy, girl, man or woman.
The Saying Good-Bye Social Story app can be used in conjunction with Special Learning’s Saying Good-Bye Social Stories Teaching Kit, which includes a colorful storybook, a full instructional guide, and additional teaching tools, making it a perfect learning kit. Special Learning will be releasing a new social story teaching app in late fall. For more information on other upcoming mobile apps, visit https://special-learning.com/comapp2.

Journey to Independence

Community-based program designed to support families on waitlist

Being an RBT for me was extremely fun because where were you going to find a place where you can be completely silly without having to worry what people thought about you? This was the only job that made me feel like I could make a dramatic difference while being myself.

I also liked to be surrounded by people that had the same goals of wanting to help kids and the teamwork made the job much easier and more enjoyable.

Change and progress was the ultimate goal for our kiddos. The early intervention program was seriously only a miracle because I saw changes in the kiddos that from day one, you wouldn’t even recognize who they were.

Changes from being able to utter 3-4 words where they can only make a syllable from when they started, the behavior decreases in which kiddo that used to engage in 30-40 0 self-harm to only half, learning how to wait during games, table work where they use to swipe and drop to the floor if they had to.

My favorite was when the parents would tell us what amazing progress they were making at home. I used to tear up and felt for these parents so much because it was already difficult for them and now, they can trust and rely on ABA and the therapists knowing their goal was ours.
