Indiana ABA staff requirements, with sources

This page is for people who run an ABA team in Indiana. It lists the training, supervision and credential rules for behavior technicians and analysts that we found at a state source. Each rule shows the law or policy it comes from and the date we last checked Indiana. Where we couldn't confirm a rule, we say so instead of guessing.

This version covers U.S. states. If you're outside the U.S., email contact@special-learning.com with your country and we'll tell you when yours is ready.

What the state requires

  • Effective Oct. 1, 2027, IHCP will require all newly enrolled and existing ABA group enrollments to be accredited. This is an agency/group-enrollment accreditation requirement, not an individual staff credential.

  • All currently enrolled ABA group enrollments had to submit documentation showing they had initiated the accreditation process by Aug. 1, 2026; failure results in enrollment deactivation. That deadline had already passed as of this log entry's own dateline (2026-08-19).

  • Supervision of RBT-delivered services must be provided at a ratio of one hour of supervision for every eight hours (1:8) of RBT-delivered services; both billable and nonbillable supervision activities count if documented and clinically relevant; compliance is measured monthly, per member, for that same month's billed technician-delivered services, and, effective April 1, 2026, is subject to claim audit and postpayment review.

  • IHCP separately requires a minimum of 12 hours of caregiver coaching and training per standard six-month ABA prior-authorization period (12-18 hours should be requested based on medical necessity; more may be requested when medically necessary; the 12-hour minimum is prorated for shorter authorization periods). This is a family/caregiver training requirement funded through the child's ABA authorization, not a staff-training requirement.

What changed recently

BT2026136 (2026-08-18) clarified and quantified the caregiver-coaching-and-training minimum and its documented-barrier exceptions. A CMS-approved provider-enrollment moratorium on new ABA group enrollments and changes of ownership has been in effect since 2026-06-06 (initial 6-month period, extendable in 6-month increments), with accreditation as the only exception route.
