BCBA Supervision Requirements
The 5% Rule
The BACB requires that RBTs receive ongoing supervision totaling at least 5% of their direct service hours each month. This means if an RBT provides 120 hours of direct ABA services, they need at least 6 hours of supervision from a qualified BCBA or BCaBA.
What Counts as Supervision
- Direct observation of the RBT implementing procedures
- Reviewing and discussing data and treatment plans
- Providing performance feedback
- Modeling correct procedure implementation
- Discussing clinical questions and ethical issues
- Group supervision (with limitations on hours)
Documentation Requirements
BCBAs must maintain records of all supervision provided, including dates, duration, type, topics covered, and feedback given. This tool helps organize that documentation in a format ready for BACB audits or insurance verification.
