For BCBA and BCaBA supervisors

Plan a new technician’s training schedule

Separate introductory learning from credential training and create time for practice and questions.

Make the schedule visible

  1. Write down the learner’s start date, available work and study time, and the person who will answer access questions.
  2. Block short learning periods and a follow-up discussion. Leave room for interruptions and an opportunity to repeat unfamiliar material.
  3. Check the license dates in the learner’s own account and schedule an early progress check so access questions can be resolved before the window ends.
  4. Separately identify the specific training and assessment required for any credential the person plans to seek. Verify requirements with the credentialing body and the employer.

Example discussion prompts

Introductory learning can support onboarding, but Level 1 is not the BACB’s 40-hour RBT training and does not establish eligibility for certification.
