Special Learning Is Very Proud to Add Colleen Anderson to Its Global Team as Director of Community Outreach

Website: https://www.ever-learning.com/

As the global autism prevalence rate continues to swell, nearly 70 million parents of children with autism stand helplessly by, as the sands of time takes away their child’s ability to attain independence and higher quality of life because they lack access to a life-altering Autism intervention called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

In the U.S. alone, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates released in mid- 2018, Autism Prevalence Rate has increased to 1 in 59 children. Using a global prevalence rate of 1 in 100, there’s a staggering 70 million children, adolescents, and adults with autism in the world!

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), an evidence-based behavioral intervention grounded in B.F. Skinner (often considered the grandfather of ABA) is universally considered the “gold standard” in Autism Intervention.

Tragically, with over 35,000 Board Certified Behavior Analysis (BCBAs) in the world, over 95% of whom practice in the United States, this life-changing intervention is not accessible by over 90% of the world’s population with Autism. In short, the world is currently seeing a supply/demand gap, the likes of which hasn’t been ever seen in recent times.

Special Learning, Inc. (SLI) was founded 9 years ago with a mission to use technology to “bring” ABA intervention to the furthest corners of the world — to democratize healthcare, first by bringing appropriate ABA training to parents to help them become their child’s’ therapist; next by developing comprehensive autism curriculum to enable parents to create and maintain ABA programs virtually. Special Learning is now working on developing a self-contained system called SL Connect, that allows a real-time peer to peer consultation. That tool, combined with a mixed-reality service delivery system, will truly allow Special Learning to achieve it’s ultimate goal of making ABA available to every person in the world that can benefit this life-changing intervention.

With the hiring of Colleen Anderson as Director of Community Outreach, SLI has officially designated its sister company, Ever Learning, as the comprehensive autism solutions for parents and educators around the world looking for quality Applied Behavior Analysis intervention training and education materials, and other evidence-based Autism Intervention to address issues including ADD/ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorders.

To increase Ever Learning’s penetration into the ever-growing parent and K to 12 education market, Colleen, with over 30 years of success connecting small and large communities as a leader and an influencer, is particularly equipped to excel in this role. Her lifelong passion to help the underserved and underrepresented population has now been transferred to helping parents of children, adolescents and adults with autism — all around the world.

Journey to Independence

Community-based program designed to support families on waitlist

Being an RBT for me was extremely fun because where were you going to find a place where you can be completely silly without having to worry what people thought about you? This was the only job that made me feel like I could make a dramatic difference while being myself.

I also liked to be surrounded by people that had the same goals of wanting to help kids and the teamwork made the job much easier and more enjoyable.

Change and progress was the ultimate goal for our kiddos. The early intervention program was seriously only a miracle because I saw changes in the kiddos that from day one, you wouldn’t even recognize who they were.

Changes from being able to utter 3-4 words where they can only make a syllable from when they started, the behavior decreases in which kiddo that used to engage in 30-40 0 self-harm to only half, learning how to wait during games, table work where they use to swipe and drop to the floor if they had to.

My favorite was when the parents would tell us what amazing progress they were making at home. I used to tear up and felt for these parents so much because it was already difficult for them and now, they can trust and rely on ABA and the therapists knowing their goal was ours.
