Why Tracking Behavior Helps
When you are in the middle of a difficult day, it can feel like things are always bad. Tracking helps you see the real picture: which days are harder, which are easier, and what patterns connect them. Over weeks, you might discover that poor sleep consistently leads to harder mornings, or that transitions after screen time are the biggest trigger. These patterns are gold for your therapy team.
Tips for Parents
- Log as soon as possible after the behavior (memory fades quickly)
- Use the quick-select chips for speed, then add details in your own words
- The severity rating is YOUR judgment, not a clinical measure. Trust yourself.
- Context is the most valuable part: what was happening before the behavior?
- Export weekly and share with your BCBA at your next meeting
- Look for good days too. What was different? That information matters.
