If you're evaluating CE providers ahead of the BACB's July 2026 update, you're asking the right question. The new participation monitoring requirement changes what you need to verify before purchasing self-paced CE — from any provider, including us.

The July 2026 standard — what it requires

Effective July 1, 2026, the BACB requires that all asynchronous (self-paced) CE courses include participation monitoring: at least 3 knowledge-check questions per 1.0 CEU, with learner responses required to complete the course. This is a structural requirement on how self-paced courses are built.

This applies to every BACB ACE Provider offering self-paced CE — not just Special Learning. The question to ask any provider before purchasing is the same.

Verified — July 2026 participation-monitoring standard

Every course in Special Learning's BACB CE catalog includes a built-in knowledge assessment — at least 3 knowledge-check questions per CEU, with required learner responses. Confirmed across all 60 ACE-credited BACB CE courses; most include 10–20 questions. Special Learning's CE Library meets the July 1, 2026 participation-monitoring standard.

Verified against Special Learning's course database, June 2026.

What to ask before buying self-paced CE from any provider

The July 2026 standard gives you a concrete checklist to evaluate any CE provider — including Special Learning. The question is structural and answerable by any legitimate ACE provider.

Pre-purchase checklist — July 2026 compliance
  1. Is the provider a current BACB ACE Provider? Verify their authorization number at bacb.com. An ACE Provider number on the receipt isn't enough — confirm current status.
  2. Does this specific course include at least 3 knowledge-check questions per 1.0 CEU? Ask the provider directly. A clear yes — with the per-CEU count — is what you need. "We have quizzes" without the threshold is not sufficient.
  3. Are learner responses required to complete the course? You need to actively respond to the questions — not just view them — to receive credit under the new standard.
