Holiday Survival and Helping your child with Autism Cope- Tips from a Parent
I am a mother of a child with autism. Every day is a challenge when raising an autistic child. The most challenging though is facing the holidays. Children on the spectrum do not like change. There is so much going on. So here are some ways that you can help your child feel more comfortable around this time of the year:
- Keep the routine of getting up and going to sleep at the same time every day.
- Keep the day schedule the same.
- Set up activities for your child.
- Continue to use ABA with your child during the holidays. They can forget skills if they have too long of a break.
Enforcing these tips will help you and your child get through the holidays. It is important that your child continues to learn. These steps will help with that.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
