RBT PDU Requirements by State
The BACB's 12-PDU requirement applies to all RBTs nationally as of January 1, 2026. But many states also have their own behavior technician licensure or registration requirements that add training, supervision, or renewal obligations beyond the BACB standard.
This guide shows what you need for both: your BACB certification and your state. Search for your state below.
Important: BACB certification and state licensure are separate systems. Completing your BACB PDUs does not automatically satisfy state requirements (and vice versa). Always verify both.
The National Baseline (All States)
Every RBT in every state must meet these BACB requirements:
- 12 PDUs per 2-year certification cycle (as of January 1, 2026)
- Training must be interactive (video with assessments, live workshops, or supervised practice)
- Instructor must hold a BCaBA, BCBA, or BCBA-D
- Content must cover the RBT Task List 2nd Edition or BACB Ethics Code
- Article-plus-quiz and code-word formats are banned after July 2026
