IBA renewal checklist: CE categories and mentorship

Prepare for IBA renewal with the IBAO’s first-cycle CE and mentorship requirements.

Use this checklist to prepare questions and documents for your renewal. Your credentialing board decides eligibility; check your own record and the latest rules before applying.

Your checklist

  1. The IBAO describes a two-year IBA certification cycle. Use the date in your board account, and verify the current instructions for your own renewal.

  2. For the first cycle, the IBA handbook lists 24 CEUs: 4 hours ethics, 4 supervision, 4 cultural diversity and awareness, and 12 ABA topics. Record the board’s actual category for each activity; do not assume a bundle fills all categories.

  3. The handbook requires 12 months of mentorship in the initial two-year cycle; months need not be consecutive. It specifies 1–2 hours per month, no more than 2 credited per month, a qualified mentor and a form completed by both parties for each meeting. Check the current handbook and your board account.

  4. IBAO says documentation should clearly show the training content and duration. Review your certificates, account instructions and any current fee before submitting.

Your renewal planning notes

Use your board account and certificates to fill in what you know. These notes are not saved or submitted and may disappear if you leave or refresh. To keep a copy, print this page before leaving. They are not checked against board records. Do not enter client information.

Check the board’s current rules and your records before choosing your next session. Print this page if you want a paper copy of your notes and checklist.

Choose sessions that match your actual need

Before buying, check the credential, CE category and certificate conditions listed for the specific session. A course collection does not by itself establish your renewal eligibility or cover every required category.
