BACB Certification Requirements (All BCBAs in New York)

Starting July 1, 2026: BACB requires participation monitoring. The handbook’s example measure is a minimum of 3 knowledge questions per CEU, or another form of required active responding. This is not a video or format mandate: article-and-quiz, journal clubs, and podcasts remain BACB-eligible.
State Licensure: New York
State-specific requirements: Licensed Behavior Analyst and Certified Behavior Analyst Assistant via the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions. New York requires coursework in the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment, and is specific about who may teach it: the training must come from a provider approved for that purpose by NYSED. The curriculum is written by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services, and approved providers present it; OCFS is itself an approved provider and offers the training free. This is generally a one-time requirement at initial licensure rather than one that recurs each cycle (Ch. 544 of the Laws of 1988 as amended; Soc. Serv. Law § 413 as amended by Ch. 56 of 2021 and Ch. 25 of 2024). It is separate from your BACB CEUs and our CE library does not provide it. Ch. 25 of 2024 amends the curriculum, so training taken years ago may no longer match what is now taught. Verified at op.nysed.gov, 3 September 2026.
