BACB Certification Requirements (All BCBAs in Pennsylvania)
Regardless of state, your BACB certification renews on a 2-year cycle.
| Credential | Cycle | Total CEUs | Ethics | Supervision |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BCBA / BCBA-D | 2 years | 32 CEUs | 4 CEUs minimum | 3 CEUs (if you supervise) |
| BCaBA | 2 years | 20 CEUs | 4 CEUs minimum | — |
Starting July 1, 2026: BACB requires participation monitoring — a minimum of 3 knowledge questions per CEU. This is not a video or format mandate: article-and-quiz, journal clubs, and podcasts remain BACB-eligible.
State Licensure: Pennsylvania Licensed Behavior Specialist
Pennsylvania requires a separate state license to practise as a behavior specialist. Your BACB certification and your Pennsylvania behavior specialist license are two separate renewals — each with their own CE requirements and timelines.
State-specific requirements: Licensed behavior specialist via the State Board of Medicine. Requires 2 hours of Board-approved continuing education in child abuse recognition and reporting per biennial renewal (49 Pa. Code §18.525) — Pennsylvania imposes no other CE requirement for behavior specialists. BACB certification separately requires 32 CEUs per 2-year cycle, including 4 ethics.
