BACB Certification Requirements (All BCBAs in Texas)
Regardless of state, your BACB certification renews on a 2-year cycle.

Starting July 1, 2026: BACB requires participation monitoring. The handbook’s example measure is a minimum of 3 knowledge questions per CEU, or another form of required active responding. This is not a video or format mandate: article-and-quiz, journal clubs, and podcasts remain BACB-eligible.
State Licensure: Texas
State-specific requirements: Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) and Licensed Assistant Behavior Analyst (LaBA) via the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. At renewal TDLR verifies your current certification and accepts it as your continuing education — and separately requires a human trafficking prevention course approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. TDLR’s own renewal page states: “A human trafficking prevention training course, approved by the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), must be completed to renew your license,” and TDLR’s list of covered licence types names “Behavior Analyst, Behavior Analyst Assistant” (Tex. Occ. Code ch. 116; HB 2059, 2019; 16 TAC ch. 121). It recurs at every renewal, the course must be on the HHSC-approved list, and it is separate from your BACB CEUs — our CE library does not provide it. HHSC publishes the approved list and includes at least one free option. Verified at TDLR and HHSC, 3 September 2026.

The BCBA 2-year cycle requires 32 hours including 4.0 ethics; supervisors also need 3.0 supervision.
