Autism training for your paraprofessionals

One self-paced course your paraprofessionals and the teachers they work with can each take on their own schedule. It covers autism and behavior-support foundations, drawn largely from work with young children in classrooms and homes. One price per person, one written quote for the district.

The course

01What your paraprofessionals learn

The Level 1 ABA Online Training Course for groups is basic training, not a credential. It is built for the people who work beside a student all day: paraprofessionals, aides, teachers and behavior technicians. Its nine online sessions include:

  • what autism is, and an overview of ABA
  • methods of teaching, and errorless teaching and prompting
  • active student responding, to raise a learner's motivation
  • two sessions on beginner classroom participation skills
  • a first session on assessing problem behavior (functional behavior assessment)

A final exam follows the sessions.

Time and proof

02Time each person needs, and what they get

Sessions run from about 45 minutes to just over 2 hours, and each person moves at their own pace. Every person gets their own access and has 10 weeks to finish from the day they activate it.

Completing this course earns a Special Learning certificate of completion. That certificate is not a continuing education (CE) certificate. It is not a professional credential, and it is not the 40-hour training required for the RBT credential.

This course does not meet any state's mandated training requirement. Whether it fits your own district's plan is your district's decision. For what your state requires of school staff, see each state's rule, quoted from the law.

Questions

05Questions districts ask

Does it count for our paraprofessionals' required hours?

We don't claim it does. It earns a certificate of completion, which is not a CE certificate, and whether it counts toward any requirement is your district's or your state's decision.

Does it cover restraint, crisis intervention or de-escalation?

No. It covers autism and behavior-support foundations only. Support for a particular student follows that student's plan and the clinician who wrote it.

Can a cooperative or interlocal buy for its member districts?

Tell us who is buying and for how many people, and we will write the quote to match.

Is it only for paraprofessionals?

No. Teachers, aides, behavior technicians and anyone on the team who works with a student every day can take it.
