How can I check a CE instructor’s expertise before I buy?

Before you pay for continuing education, check four things: who teaches each session, what the BACB’s public registry shows about that person, when the session was recorded, and how the teaching actually sounds. Each check takes a few minutes and tells you more than a course title or a logo.

A provider’s ACE number shows that the BACB has authorized the provider to offer continuing education. It is not a review of a particular instructor or session, so it is worth looking past it.

Is each session’s instructor named?

A useful CE page names the person who teaches each session, not only the company. If a page lists a brand but no instructors, ask the provider who teaches before you buy.

What does the BACB Certificant Registry show?

The BACB’s Certificant Registry is public and updated daily. Search the instructor’s name to see whether they hold a BACB certification. The BCBA Handbook suggests the same check when choosing a supervisor, because the registry also shows disciplinary sanctions. Some instructors come from related fields and will not appear there; for them, look at their published work and professional role.

Have they worked on this topic?

Search the instructor’s name together with the session topic. Published research, book chapters, a university role or years of practice in that area tell you more than a job title alone.

When was the session recorded?

Recorded CE can be excellent teaching, but older recordings may use earlier terminology or examples from earlier professional codes. A provider should tell you when material is older so you can judge it in context.

Can I watch before I pay?

A free trial is the most direct check. Watch part of a session and ask yourself whether the instructor explains clearly and whether the content goes beyond what you already know.

How does this work for the Video CE Library?

The product page names the presenters and describes each of the 18 recordings. The library is taught by Michele LaMarche, Christine Austin, Erin Lombard, Peter Gerhardt and Jon S. Bailey, and Maria Nicolaou teaches ABA in Practice, Session 5.

The page also says plainly that the library combines older lectures with later panel and Journal Club discussions, and that some recordings use earlier terminology, professional-code examples or clinical procedures. Every session is open for a free 7-day trial, so you can watch an instructor before you buy.

The library offers 32.5 BACB CE hours through 18 recorded trainings: 25 General, 4 Ethics and 3.5 Supervision. At the October 27, 2026 list price, one payment of $199 gives one assigned learner 12 months of access, with no automatic renewal. A training’s CE can be claimed once, so compare the titles with any you have already completed.
