NCSP renewal: the CPD hours and the situations that come up
A guide for Nationally Certified School Psychologists: the CPD hours NASP requires for renewal, with pages on the hours and situations that come up in renewal, in NASP's own words, and a free planner for your hours.
Terms. NCSP is the Nationally Certified School Psychologist credential from NASP, the National Association of School Psychologists. CPD is continuing professional development; EDI is equity, diversity, and inclusion; APA is the American Psychological Association.
What every renewal needs
NASP's renewal page lists "A minimum of 75 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) activities within 36 months of renewal, and maintain documentation of activities". Within those hours, NASP says "At least 10 of the 75 CPD hours must come from a NASP-approved provider or APA-approved sponsor of continuing education", along with "At least 3 hours of CPD regarding ethical practice and/or the legal regulation of school psychology" and 3 CPD hours in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) / social justice, which "count toward the required 75 CPD total."
Plan your hours
Our free NCSP renewal hours planner shows what is left in each of the CPD hour requirements it tracks, how many hours a month will get you there, and what to read next. It has a printable CPD log. You can also save planner inputs and the activity log as separate files on your device, then restore them later. They are not saved automatically; keep the files private.
- Enter the hours you will claim and your expiration month to see the remaining requirements.
- Add completed activities to the CPD log. Before saving, add or clear any unfinished activity. The saved log includes added activities and your name.
- Save the log and the planner inputs as separate files if you want to return to both; restore each file in its own control.

Hours you choose yourself
Special Learning is not a NASP-approved provider or an APA-approved sponsor, and our courses do not count toward the hours that must come from one. If you choose a recorded course for your self-study hours, Compassionate Mandated Reporting Across Disciplines runs 110 minutes and costs $39, paid once; after you pass its quiz, its certificate of completion shows your name, the course title, the dates and the hours. You decide whether it meets the four questions in NASP's CPD guidelines for you. We do not claim it meets the ethical/legal or EDI requirement.
