ASHA certification maintenance hours planner

Enter the year your 3-year interval ends and the professional development hours (PDHs) you have so far. The planner shows what's left of ASHA's 30 PDHs and of the two content areas in ASHA's current standards (effective January 1, 2026; confirm in your ASHA account which apply to your interval), and how many hours a month will get you there. It runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent or saved.

Enter only PDHs completed within your current interval. ASHA says: "An activity will count based on its date of completion, not the date it was started." It also says: "If you complete more than 30 PDHs during your current maintenance interval, the additional hours cannot be applied to your next interval."

ASHA's requirements, in its words

  • Certificate holders "are required to earn and report at least 30 PDHs during each 3-year certification maintenance interval." "One PDH is equal to 60 minutes spent completing a professional development activity as a learner and participant."
  • "Content Area 1: 1 PDH in ethics" and "Content Area 2: 2 PDHs in topics that strengthen the ability of ASHA-certified individuals to" provide services aligned with the histories, values and circumstances of individuals, families and communities, and/or to strengthen self-reflection, adaptability and collaboration with colleagues and students. These hours are part of the 30, and "the same clock time may not be counted twice."
  • ASHA's page marks these content-area requirements effective January 1, 2026; confirm in your ASHA account which requirements apply to your interval.
  • Units: ASHA's conversion table on its PDH page lists 1.0 PDH as 0.1 ASHA CEU and 10.0 PDHs as 1.0 ASHA CEU, and its CE Registry FAQ equates 30 PDHs with 3 ASHA CEUs. If your certificates show ASHA CEUs, multiply by 10 to get PDHs before entering them.
  • "The 3-year certification maintenance interval begins the first January following the date certification was awarded." ASHA's examples run from January 1 to December 31 of the third calendar year, for instance "January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2028".
  • Holders who miss the requirements are changed to "Not Current" on April 1 and "have until August 31 annually to meet certification maintenance requirements"; after that, reinstatement requirements apply.

The planner tracks PDHs only. Other steps apply too: you submit a Certification Maintenance Compliance Form once your 30 PDHs are complete, and clinical supervisors and CF mentors who supervise or instruct students or Clinical Fellows for ASHA certification complete, one time after earning the CCC-A or CCC-SLP, a "minimum of 2 hours of professional development in the area of supervision/clinical instruction." Read ASHA's own pages: Maintaining your certification, PDHs for ASHA certification and certification maintenance intervals. This planner is our arithmetic, not ASHA's; ASHA's pages decide.

Hours you choose yourself

ASHA says "you don't need prior approval from ASHA for the activities you choose." It also says "The learner determines if a professional development activity falls within acceptable topic areas". Special Learning is not an ASHA Approved CE Provider, and our courses are not ASHA CEUs. If you choose a recorded course, Compassionate Mandated Reporting Across Disciplines runs 110 minutes and costs $39, paid once; after you pass its quiz, its certificate shows Special Learning as the sponsoring organization, your name, the course title, the dates and the hours. You decide whether its content fits ASHA's Scope of Practice for you. We do not claim it meets Content Area 1 or Content Area 2. For more, see our ASHA page, or read finishing your ASHA hours by December 31.

Common questions

How many PDHs do I need to maintain my ASHA CCC?

ASHA requires at least 30 PDHs during each 3-year certification maintenance interval. Its current standards, effective January 1, 2026, include 1 PDH in ethics (Content Area 1) and 2 PDHs in Content Area 2; confirm in your ASHA account which requirements apply to your interval. One PDH is 60 minutes.

When does my certification maintenance interval end?

ASHA says the 3-year interval begins the first January after your certification was awarded, and its examples end on December 31 of the third calendar year. Check your interval in your ASHA account.

How do ASHA CEUs convert to PDHs?

ASHA's conversion table lists 0.1 ASHA CEU as 1.0 PDH and 1.0 ASHA CEU as 10.0 PDHs, so 3 ASHA CEUs equal the 30 PDHs required in an interval. One PDH is 60 minutes.

Do I need ASHA's approval for a course I choose?

No. ASHA says you don't need prior approval for the activities you choose, and that the learner determines whether an activity falls within acceptable topic areas. Keep certificates of completion in case of a maintenance audit.
