NCSP renewal hours planner

Enter when your NCSP expires and the hours you have so far. The planner shows what's left in each CPD hour requirement tracked here and how many hours a month will get you there. It runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent or saved.

Enter only hours you will claim: hours earned from the same month three years before the month you submit your renewal through the submission month itself (NASP's example: for a June 2025 submission, June 2022 through June 2025), none already used for a previous renewal. The planner assumes you submit in your expiration month; if you'll submit earlier, count from that month instead. NASP: "Credits from a previous renewal cycle may not be resubmitted."

NASP's requirements, in its words

  • "A minimum of 75 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) activities within 36 months of renewal, and maintain documentation of activities."
  • "At least 10 of the 75 CPD hours must come from a NASP-approved provider or APA-approved sponsor of continuing education."
  • "At least 3 hours of CPD regarding ethical practice and/or the legal regulation of school psychology, which may be met with any appropriate CPD activity category."
  • "All NCSP renewals must include 3 CPD hours in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) / social justice. These hours count toward the required 75 CPD total."
  • Self-study (Category H) has a maximum of 40 CPD credits; "one may accrue all 40 hours from formal self-study opportunities, though can claim no more than 20 hours from informal self-study."
  • "Credential valid for 36 months from month renewed. Expiration is always the last day of the month." Up to 10% of renewals are audited, so keep your documentation.

The planner tracks CPD hours only. Other renewal steps apply too; for example, NASP says "New NCSPs (first renewal) must document at least 1 academic year of professional support/mentorship."

For the rest of your hours, NASP says you "may evaluate and select Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities based on your own professional development needs, and may claim the activities for CPD credit, without contacting NASP for preapproval," if you can answer yes to its four questions. Read the current rules on NASP's NCSP renewal page and CPD guidelines. This planner is our arithmetic, not NASP's; NASP's pages decide.

Hours you choose yourself

Special Learning is not a NASP-approved provider or an APA-approved sponsor, and our courses do not meet the 10-hour requirement. If you choose a recorded course for your self-study hours, Compassionate Mandated Reporting Across Disciplines runs 110 minutes and costs $39, paid once; after you pass its quiz, its certificate of completion shows your name, the course title, the dates and the hours. You decide whether it meets NASP's four questions for you. We do not claim it meets the ethical/legal or EDI requirement. For more on how NASP's rules apply, see our NCSP page.

Common questions

How many CPD hours do I need to renew the NCSP?

NASP requires a minimum of 75 CPD hours within the 36 months before renewal, including at least 10 from a NASP-approved provider or APA-approved sponsor, at least 3 on ethical practice and/or the legal regulation of school psychology, and 3 in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) / social justice.

Do the ethics and EDI hours count toward the 75?

NASP says the EDI hours count toward the required 75 CPD total. The approved-provider, ethics/legal and EDI hours are all part of the 75, so the planner counts them inside your total, not on top of it.

Is there a limit on self-study hours?

Yes. NASP's CPD guidelines set a maximum of 40 CPD credits for self-study (Category H), and no more than 20 of those from informal self-study.
