Renewing in Washington
Washington's Department of Health licenses you as a Licensed Behavior Analyst. Your license renews every 2 years, on your birthday. Washington requires 32 hours of continuing education per 2-year cycle, with at least 20 of those hours in behavior-analytic skill development and no more than 8 in professional development or business practices. At least 4 of the 32 hours have to cover professional ethics and boundaries, and separately, you need 2 hours of health equity training every 4 years.

July 2026 Changes Affecting Washington BCBAs
Format Change: Participation Monitoring for Asynchronous CE
Starting July 1, 2026, asynchronous (self-paced) CE includes participation monitoring — at least 3 knowledge-check questions per CEU, the handbook's example measure, or other active responding. This is not a video- or interactive-only mandate: live webinars, video, journal clubs, and podcasts all remain valid CE when they include the required knowledge checks. CEUs already in your record are unaffected.
Is your CE provider ready? For on-demand CE, the BACB's listed measure is knowledge questions on the event, at least 3 per CEU. Our BACB CE courses use it, and you need 80% to earn your certificate.
